Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, RTDS Technologies has served the power industry for three decades. Their landmark product is the RTDS Simulator – the world standard in real-time power system simulation.
Today, the RTDS Simulator is used worldwide for hardware-in-the-loop testing, allowing users to de-risk novel technologies prior to integrating them into their power systems. RTDS’s team of experts work with electric utilities, power system equipment manufacturers, universities, research institutions, and consultants around the world – equipping them to validate the performance of grid modernization technologies and innovate in their field.
RTDS Technologies is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – a major hub for power systems research and expertise. The Difference We Make
RTDS Technologies is celebrating 30 years of real-time digital simulation for the power industry in 2024.
RTDS’s journey begins back in the 1980s at the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre (MHRC). Research at the Centre resulted in the world’s first real-time digital power system simulation in 1989, which was a revolution in flexibility when it came to testing HVDC controls. RTDS Technologies was incorporated in 1994 and later joined the AMETEK family of businesses in 2022.
The RTDS Simulator equips power system professionals to validate the performance of grid modernization technologies and innovate in their field. Meet the Team
Meet Sumek – a Lead Applications Engineer at RTDS Technologies.
As a Lead Applications Engineer, Sumek is a subject matter expert on real-time simulation for HVDC and other power electronics applications, such as renewable energy. He is involved in many different areas of the business, including research and development, technical support for customers, simulation modeling, and more.
An RTDS team member since 2011, Sumek is excited by RTDS’s global presence and innovative environment.
“As someone who was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, it is special to work for a company that is homegrown and is successfully conducting business all over the world,” he said. “It has provided opportunities to interact with people from many countries and make a global impact to the power system industry, while representing our company and the city I grew up in.”
“Working at RTDS Technologies means working in an environment with the brightest minds in real-time simulation."
Giving back to the community
RTDS Technologies has supported a number of non-profit charitable organizations in their home of Manitoba, Canada in partnership with the AMETEK Foundation.
In 2023, the RTDS Technologies team raised enough funds for their local chapter of Habitat for Humanity to allow 30 RTDS Technologies team members to take part in volunteer build days, working on a construction site to build affordable housing in their community.
This AMETEK business also holds an annual fundraising campaign to support the United Way of Winnipeg, who works to improve lives in Manitoba via several different strategies, approaches, and local organizations.
