Founded as a three-person company on the Lower Rhine in Kleve, Germany, SPECTRO Analytical Instruments is developing industry-leading elemental analyzers of materials for industry, research, and academia worldwide.

Elemental analysis is critical to the daily operations of countless applications across various industries – recycling firms categorize their scrap metal, environmental agencies and testing labs evaluate pollutant levels, petrochemical companies ensure the regulatory compliance of their fuel composition, and more.

SPECTRO analyzers employ optical emission (stationary and mobile Arc/Spark OES and ICP-OES) and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) technology. Their instruments range from handheld to floor-standing spectrometers. They are continually technology and innovation leaders in their respective industries and applications. To date, SPECTRO has shipped more than 50,000 instruments worldwide.

The Difference We Make

Since its founding in 1979, many of SPECTRO's breakthrough innovations have been patented. Its most recent ground-breaking technologies include MultiView, DSOI, CMOS+T, and iCAL.

SPECTRO's innovations in element analysis include:

  • - Delivering high-throughput agronomical analysis for Eurofins, provider of laboratory services and advice on fertilization, feed value, soil and crop health, and food safety for European agribusinesses.
  • - Generating revolutionary spectrometric metal analysis results for Voestalpine Stahl, one of Europe's leading metals manufacturers.
  • - Eliminating time- and expense-consuming lab sample shipments from remote sites by enabling S.M.T. S.r.l., an independent laboratory in Milan, to go mobile and conduct chemical analysis of large metal samples at its client's locations.
  • - Helping CASS, a unique closed-loop recycling and manufacturing company in California, to process end-of-life metals for greener recycling.
  • - Conquering the wide variety of samples submitted for advanced laboratory analysis to the Department of Agronomy, Food, Natural Resources, Animals, and Environment at the University of Padua.

Meet The Team

Meet Beatrice, a Service Engineer at SPECTRO. Based in Milan, Beatrice is a part of SPECTRO's worldwide team responsible for installations, maintenance, and customer device training. She is passionate about science and technology, and this shows through her work. "Chemistry is everywhere, impacting our lives every day and everywhere — from the food we grow and eat to the products we make and use to the conservation of our environment," she says.

Beatrice proudly helps her customers – who work in various industries from food to metals production – optimize their laboratory processes and improve their analysis and production methods to ensure the quality of their resources and products.

Engineering, particularly chemical engineering, she says, contributes significantly to society. It is also an exciting and growing career path. For newly graduated students in such fields, AMETEK represents an excellent opportunity.

"I work individually, but this is also a team job," says Beatrice. "We teach each other and share ideas to solve problems."

Promoting STEM Education

SPECTRO is always preparing for and investing in the future. This AMETEK business partners with several schools and universities in their community, providing various resources and promoting the value of STEM education.

This includes partnering with Karl Kisters Realschule in Kleve-Kellen, Germany to provide opportunities for vocational training and mentorship. SPECTRO’s partnership with the school helps give students valuable exposure to technical careers, sparking an interest in potential paths in STEM careers.

SPECTRO also supports multiple Deutschland Stipendium scholarships at Fresenius University of Applied Sciences and at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
